Cultivating the Habit of Being Positive

Many authors have written a lot about positivity of thought, feelings, attitude, and action. There is hardly anyone who can deny the importance of being positive. However, to be positive is an art. Positivity can be in stages with different types of states of mind. All of us have a mix of deeply rooted positive and negative feelings and thoughts hidden in our system. Even when we realize the importance of being positive, attaining total positivity in a day may not be possible. Therefore, let us see how we can gradually cultivate the habit of being positive.

We should understand that positivity is a habit. To cultivate this, we should consciously do something positive every day, we should consciously have a positive thought every day and we should positively react to someone’s words or action every day.

Feeling committed and concerned for others is a positive state of mind. We should consciously feel concerned for our family, our organization, our country and society at large every day. By doing this, we do not become superior to others. This is in our own interest.

Self-Discipline helps us in being positive. Negativity and insecurity within us, on the other hand, attracts us towards breaking the rules. A natural confidence in oneself automatically leads to self-control.

Serving others helps in developing the habit of being positive. We should selflessly serve someone every day.

Worship and devotion to God is one of the highest states of positivity of mind. He is the father of all of us. He loves all of us the way as we are. If I have faith that God is with me, he is helping me; God is guiding me. 'if God be for us who can be against us?'

The highest state of positivity is seeing God in our duties and in everyone whom we come across while playing our key roles. One of the stories our grandparents tell during pooja is that one carpenter daily before he starts, used to think of lord Ganesh .One day lord Ganesh  appear in front of him and ask ''khuch  mang''.

The purpose of such stories is to teach us that if we have faith in God and do everything with devotion, God is present in our work, in the patients for a doctor, in the students for a teacher, in the children for a parent, in the costumers for a businessman, in the family members for a housewife etc.  Prayer can be done anywhere, anytime and in our own words. If I make a personal relation with God and talk to him in my own words I will feel close to him. Statues, pictures are pictorial representation but ultimately we must connect with him. If we simply do everything with devotion, God will be with us all the time as  Swami Vivekanand said:

“God is to be worshipped   as the one beloved, dearer than everything in this and next life. The moment I have realised God sitting in the temple of every human body, the , moment I stand in reverence  before every human being and see God  in him. That moment am free from bondage, everything that binds vanishes and I  am free.”

" बहु रूपों में खड़े तुम्हारे आगे और कहा हे ईश

व्यर्थ खोज यहाँ जीव प्रेम की ही सेवा पाते हैं जगदीश ”
