Generating Positive Emotions

Generating Positive Emotions and a feeling of Perennial Contentment is an Art.  All of us want positive life events which lead to progress, happiness and a sense of self- worth. However,  a myth generally prevails in our mind that circumstances or other people have a role in creating these positive events, or in other words, in making our life successful and enjoyable , or, on the other hand,in creating problems in our life and making it miserable.
WE need to understand two fundamental aspects of our day to day life to enjoy continuous progress, happiness and a sense of self- worth simultaneously. One – many people today believe that a feeling of joy, self-worth, faith in others and a state of fearlessness attract positive situations in life. Therefore, people who are able to manage their emotions are more successful than others. Secondly, we do not experience different emotions because of others’ behaviour or because of our success of failure. According to the famous psychiatrist, ERIC BERNE (who propounded the theory of TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS to understand deeper aspects of human behaviour), positive and negative emotions and thoughts get recorded in our brain in early childhood, and, in later part of our life, we keep on experiencing the same emotions in the form of their replay. What we see outside (someone appreciating us or abusing us or we getting a promotion or losing a job, etc.) only trigger these recordings. Therefore, if a person could not record a feeling of thrill or joy in early childhood, nothing in life makes him joyful even if many good things happen to him. Similarly, if a person never experienced depression in childhood and there are no such recordings, no amount of struggle can make him depressed later in life.
According to ancient Indian teachings also, a person (his soul) carries his SAMSKARS in the form of values, beliefs and deep feelings from his previous lives to the present one. That is why every new born human child is unique. The moral of the story is, whatever pain or joy we experience in various situations is not because of something which is outside. These emotions are already within us. They only get replayed. If two friends who are working on the same post in the same organization are fired together, both of them may react differently to this event.
An emotion is also generally accompanied by some physiological changes. Thus, it becomes difficult to hold one’s emotions or to manage them instantly. The best strategy is, therefore, to gradually work upon one’s recordings and change those deep rooted feelings and thoughts which create discomfort.  To experience joy, inspiration and peace, the best alternative is to begin with those activities which create physiological changes accompanied by positive emotions. A nature walk (going for a walk at a place where one can communicate with Nature), Yogasan, Pranayam and simple meditation are some very effective tools of changing one physiological constitution. These activities help us in managing the replay of positive and negative thoughts and emotions.

The central message which can make our life beautiful is that Generating Positive Emotions without getting worried to change one’s painful life situations is the secret of a real HAPPY LIFE.  Developing an ability to control one’s emotions and their expression can save a lot of years of our life so that we can do something more worthwhile.

Smriti I know, it is easy said than done but one should live like the flower of rose. Despite having grown amidst thorns, it spreads smiles and fragrance. And, as is rightly said by George Eliot, It will never rain roses; when we want to have more roses we must plant more trees.

Vikram While childhood memories recorded in our brain cells do have impact on our emotions but at the same time external factors are also sometimes responsible for influencing them. Yes, we should learn to control our emotions and turn the situation to positivity. Thanks for reminding through this article.
