Learning from Science and Religion

Time is an eternal traveler, as it passes by uninterrupted, things change. What was thought earlier is replaced by new theories, studies and experiences. But a closer look will tell us that what it was earlier, it is now the same. Only the perspective, the way of thinking and interpreting has changed.

People say that Science and Religion are totally different aspects. Some say they are the same. Some people say that certain things are explained through Science whereas certain principles of Life are understood through Religion. However, some great philosophers and Scientists have agreed that the same phenomenon are explained by religion and science equally well. Only the perspective is different.

One major issue which is often talked about and which directly or indirectly influences our major decisions is the theory of Creation. Various religions explain that there is a supernatural force. Science says that it is a physical force. Rather than debating or having any doubts regarding the theory of creation, we should draw some learning for ourselves. Nature, which is also a creation, which does not deliberately change itself, teaches us the laws of creation, the laws of Nature. If we simply follow the Laws of Nature, it can bring a great difference in our lives.

The greatest law of Nature is its Universality. Just as Nature, Man is also universal. We should find ways to expand our existence by being honestly concerned about others - our immediate family, our extended family, our colleagues, our country and the whole world. By limiting ourselves to our selfish interests, we invite a feeling of powerlessness and create a vicious cycle which takes us away from our natural powers lying within our soul and at the same time weakens our connection with the Creator. When we ask for God’s blessings, we should first bless others. When our soul blesses someone, it creates a positive sheath around us which helps in making our own wishes come true.

Einstein said, “When I read Bhagvad Geeta and reflect about how God created this Universe, everything else seems to be superfluous.” Mahatma Gandhi said, “When doubts haunt me, when disappointments stare at me…... I turn to Gita.” The president of Ford Foundation once said, “The day I understood the Law of Re-incarnation, the meaning of Life changed for me.”

The reflections of these great people suggest that a lot has already been discovered. The need is to understand and accept the real knowledge and integrate it with one’s day-to-day life. Some philosophers said, what is there within us is reflected outside us. When we try to master the within part, religion helps us. When we try and master what is outside, Science helps us.

The scientists have understood the power of an Atom and have created atomic energy out of it. In the same way, we are yet to understand the power of minutest particle of our inner existence, the Soul. In our day to day life, we do not operate with an atom. We operate with objects. Similarly, when talking about self, we understand the body and the mind, etc. We do not operate with our soul (in its purest form).  The power which is lying hidden within our soul is perhaps one of the greatest secrets. Just as we have to follow a process to get the energy of an atom, we have to follow a process to realize the hidden energy of soul.

To conclude, we should strive continuously to enrich ourselves by first acquiring the right knowledge and then by being a part of the right knowledge. Debating about an issue keeps us away from the knowledge and wisdom. Understanding it by being a part of it makes us wiser and more powerful.

Try these to Enrich your Life

  • Do something to expand your existence everyday. If you can support someone for a genuine cause, go ahead.  Do something for a cause everyday
  • Just like a tree, offer the fruits of your efforts for the welfare and enrichment of your children, your juniors, your colleagues and many others. This quality makes us a true parent and a true leader.
  • When others contribute in your life, you do your part honestly to get positive results. When we take care of a plant, it grows.
  • When you find darkness around, wait patiently for the Sunrise. Don’t let the darkness disappoint you. Silently prepare yourself to make full use of the day as soon as the dawn is there.
